The photography in this charming small book is lovely, and the hints of story on each page are thought-provoking. I could see this book being used with children as a stimulus for story-telling, as reader and child develop a ‘What if …?’ scenario from the ideas that are given. This is a most interesting concept, and a quite unusual approach by someone who is herself a gifted story-teller.
Cathryn, your imagination is so amazing, you can see a story behind everything you see and photograph and you makes it come to life for the rest of us. You’re the best storyteller I’ve ever met and I’ve always loved stories.
Cathryn Wellner has a delightfully creative way of pairing her excellent photographs of the (mostly) natural world around her, with whimsical mini-stories she tells on behalf of the photo-subjects. For me, the whole book and each part of it are inspiration and reminder to Pay Attention. Pay attention, and make no assumptions about what appears before me – maybe something totally Other is actually happening here. It’s a challenge, in a way, to always be Present to the world around.
