Books

For Readers, Bookshops, and Libraries

Bookstores and libraries are two of my favourite places to linger, so I’ve included the ISBNs for all my books. You can use them to order copies for yourself, recommend them to friends, or request them through your local library. Librarians love hearing from their patrons, and an ISBN makes it easy for them to add a book to their collection.

To encourage you to shop around for your books, I’ve included sample links from various parts of the world. I’ve discovered that my books sell for wildly different amounts, even in the same country, despite my having set a reasonable price for all of them.

I’m a big fan of libraries and would be broke without them. If you see a book you would like your library to purchase, in print or digital format, share the ISBN with them and show them the description below or on the book’s own web page.

The Reluctant Farmer

A memoir of unexpected change, rural resilience, and finding home in unlikely places.

Cover of The Reluctant Farmer. Cathryn kneels beside brown-coated Shetland sheep

A sudden move from city life to a small farm—and then a remote northern ranch—shook up everything I thought I knew about myself. The Reluctant Farmer follows the humour, jolts, and surprising joys of that journey, and the lessons it offered about courage, adaptability, and starting over in later life.

Small-Scale Stories

Small-Scale Stories are whimsical, observant, and slightly mischievous. They arise from walking through the world with a storytelling mind — one that listens closely.

A construction crane boasts about rising above the city. A flower complains about being misnamed. A pigeon defends its reputation as an environmental steward. In these stories, animals, plants, and even everyday objects speak — not because they’re fanciful, but because they remind us how deeply connected everything is.

I’ve gathered all eleven books on a separate page, with descriptions and sample pages for each. They delight me still. I hope they enchant you, too.
